, is a Diplomate of the
American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology specializing in Reproductive
Endocrinology and Fertility. Dr. Smotrich earned his M.D. degree from
the Sackler School of Medicine, University of Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv, Israel.
He completed his Post-Graduate Residency studies and Fellowship training
in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility in the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The George Washington University
School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and in the Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology at the Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany, N.Y.
Dr. Smotrich has served as an Adjunct Scientist at the National
Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, specializing in the care of women
with hormonal
abnormalities and premature ovarian failure. He was a member of the clinical teaching
faculties at the George Washington University School of Medicine in the
Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility and at the Albany
Medical College.
In recognition of the sensitivity he has brought to the
many medical and reproductive endocrinology students he has trained, as
well as his tireless devotion and academic excellence, Dr. Smotrich was
honored with the highly coveted Teacher of the Year award at the George
Washington University School of Medicine. He also was honored with the
highly esteemed Golden Apple Teaching award at the Albany Medical Center
for his superior teaching skills.
In 2007 the American Fertility Association presented Dr. Smotrich
with its “Visionary Award” to honor him for his work in infertility, third party reproduction and stem cell research.
He has lectured throughout the world on advanced diagnostic
and treatment methods for infertility, is widely published on the clinical
care and treatment of, and basic research in, infertility in both American
and international medical journals. The international fertility journal,
Human Reproduction, featured Dr. Smotrich's research on early human
embryo development on the cover of their January, 1996 issue. Dr. Smotrich
has published IVF research on hormone blood testing as prognostic indicators
of potential for IVF success in the American journal, Fertility and
Sterility. Dr. Smotrich is recognized as a definitive medical scientist
and resource for print and broadcast media journalists interested in
communicating up-to-date information on assisted reproductive technology
to mass audiences. He has been featured in print
media, such as The
San Diego Union Tribune, Glamour
Magazine and Bazaar
Magazine.
