Your first step begins with an initial consultation. As an out-of-state or international patient this can be done via telephone. You are also welcome to travel to La Jolla IVF for your initial consult. With either option, during your initial consultation you will be able to discuss your case in great detail with Dr Smotrich. Together we will review your options and create a personalized plan tailored to your desires and individual needs.
If you come in to our office for your initial consultation we are also able to perform the following.
Monitored at La Jolla IVF
If you decide to extend your stay here in San Diego for your entire cycle, you will be monitored by our office. One of our experienced coordinators will be assigned to closely monitor you throughout the entire process. The total length of a stay would depend on how you respond to the medication, as well as, which day the embryo transfer (day 3 embryo transfer or day 5/6 after blastocyst transfer took place). Usually a 21 day stay would be required, which includes the recommend 3 days of modified bed rest after your embryo transfer.
Monitored at the place of residence
You can also be monitored where you live. Appropriate care could be coordinated with your local OB/GYN office. One of our experienced coordinators would be assigned to carefully monitor your care and progress, help you with questions or concerns and guide you through the process. Other types of consultations, such as legal and financial can usually be completed via telephone, e-mail or fax.
We recommend for you to arrive at our facility at mid cycle, about 4 days prior to egg retrieval. The total length of your stay with this option would be about 12 to 13 days, depending on the day of embryo transfer (day 3 embryo transfer or day 5/6 blastocyst transfer). This includes the recommended 3 days of bed rest.
Monitored at La Jolla IVF
If you decide to start your medications while in San Diego, appropriate monitoring and follow-ups will be performed at La Jolla IVF. One of our experienced coordinators will be monitoring you closely throughout your care. A one month stay would usually be required, which includes the recommend 3 days of modified bed rest after your embryo transfer.
Monitored at the place of residence
You can also be monitored where you live and appropriate care could be coordinated with your local OB/GYN office. One of our experienced coordinators would be assigned to carefully monitor your care and progress, help you with questions or concerns and guide you through the process. Other types of consultations, such as legal and financial can usually be completed via telephone, e-mail or fax.
We recommend arrival at our facility 3-4 days prior to your Egg Donors egg retrieval to ensure completion of proper testing and management. The total length of your stay with this option would be about 13 to 14 days. This is dependent upon the day of embryo transfer (day 3 embryo transfer or day 5/6 blastocyst transfer) and includes the recommended 3 days of bed rest.
We are highly experienced in working with gestational surrogacy in San Diego and can provide excellent guidance and support. In most cases, a surrogate agency will be involved. We are happy to make a referral if needed or we can work with the surrogate agency of your choice.
During a visit to San Diego, Intended Parents, Gestational Surrogate and Dr Smotrich will all meet in person. Together we will develop a tailored protocol to suit all parties and confirm your dates of preference. A personal phone conference can also be arranged in lieu of a face to face meeting. After the completion of legal matters, our office will proceed with performing a surrogate evaluation and infections disease screening. Both parties are assigned an experienced coordinator to assist you through the process. You as the Intended Parent(s) will continually receive updates of all developments. The Surrogate can then be monitored at La Jolla IVF or at the surrogate’s place of preference. On the day of the embryo transfer you have the choice of being present at La Jolla IVF or to receive continual communication via telephone contact.
The required length of stay in San Diego will depend on your individual case and the parties involved in the creation of your embryo(s) for the surrogate to carry. If sperm from the intended father is used he needs to be here 3 days prior to egg retrieval to complete blood work, as well as, providing a sperm specimen on the day of retrieval. There is also the option of using frozen sperm.
